Viewer management for gated live streams and on-demand video

Whitelist email addresses or whole domains, group viewers by department or event, and ask people to sign in before the player unlocks. The same list gates a live event, its recording, a channel or the viewer home page.

How viewer management gates video content

Viewer management is a guest list for video. Instead of a shared password that gets forwarded, you decide which email addresses or email domains may watch, and each viewer proves they own that address before the player unlocks. The same list can gate a live event, its recording, a channel or the viewer home page.

StreamShark is an enterprise video platform that handles this for live streaming and video on demand alike. You create a viewer group, whitelisting a domain such as your company's or a partner's, or a list of individual addresses pasted in or uploaded as a CSV, and assign that group to any content. Viewers sign in with their email and verify it by clicking a link, by magic link on later visits or with a password, or you can relax verification and use a shared access code instead. Every viewer who signs in is logged, so the viewer management report shows who watched, which also makes viewer management a registration tool for gated webinars and product launches. For employees, single sign-on does the same job through your identity provider, and the two run side by side on one account.

Whitelist a domain or a list of addresses

A viewer group is a whitelist. Enter an email domain and everyone with an address at that company gets in, or paste a list of individual addresses, or upload them as a CSV with names and optional passwords. A viewer can belong to more than one group, and a group can be reused on any event or video.

One list for live events, recordings, channels and the home page

Assign a viewer group under the privacy settings of a live event, an on-demand video, a Live Scheduler playout, a channel or the viewer home page. On the Business plan and above, privacy profiles can combine a viewer group with other rules, so a stream can be limited to registered attendees in one country or to a single embed domain.

Viewers unlock the player with their email

By default a viewer enters their email, adds a name and password, and clicks a verification link, so each address is proven to be real. On later visits they sign in with a magic link or their password. If verification is too much for the audience, turn it off and optionally ask for a shared access code instead. Sign-in happens inside the player, so the embed and the channel page work as before.

Gate a video and keep the sign-up list

Viewer management doubles as a registration form for gated webinars, product launches and courses. Ask for as little as an email address, or add first and last name, then follow up after the event or add the attendees to the next one.

See exactly who watched

The viewer management report lists each person who signed in to a live event or on-demand video, by name and email address, with the time they signed in. Export it as CSV for attendance, compliance or follow-up. It sits alongside the other reports in StreamShark's video analytics and insights.

Viewer management questions we get asked

Viewer management is StreamShark's way of gating video to approved viewers. You whitelist email addresses or email domains in a viewer group, assign the group to a live event, video, channel or home page, and viewers sign in with their email before the player unlocks.

A viewer enters their email address, and on a first visit adds a name and password and clicks a verification link sent to that address. On later visits they sign in with a magic link or their password. Email verification can be turned off, with an optional shared access code in its place.

Yes. Paste a list of email addresses into a viewer group or upload a CSV, either emails only or emails with first name, last name and an optional password. A viewer can be in more than one group.

Yes. A viewer group can be assigned to a live event, an on-demand video, a Live Scheduler playout, a channel or the viewer home page, so the same list gates the broadcast and its recording.

Single sign-on authenticates employees through your identity provider and requires an Enterprise plan. Viewer management authenticates anyone by email address, so it suits partners, customers, students and event registrants who are not in your directory. The two run side by side on the same account.

Viewer management is included from the Team plan upward, with 200 viewers on Team, 500 on Business and a custom number on Enterprise plans. It is not on the Standard plan.
